Re: Raet's WIPs - over enthusiastic lamia

Well, the myth that I went with for lamia mentions that being very drawn to kids... Though for darker reasons!

Written by: The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica
Lamia, in Classical mythology, a female daemon who devoured children.

I changed it to being that Lamia love children and often state that they want to just gobble them up... Of course they mean this figuratively

also

Lamia is a mistress of the god Zeus, causing Zeus' jealous wife, Hera, to kill all of Lamia's children and transform her into a monster that hunts and devours the children of others. Another version has Hera stealing all of Lamia's children and Lamia, who loses her mind from grief and despair, starts stealing and devouring others' children out of envy, the repeated monstrosity of which transforms her into a monster.

This is why they show too much affection sometimes to other people's children, it's a reference to the myth she is based on.

I know the myth, but wait, you are basing the entire race of lamiae in Praxis to single a myth about one of them (well, the only one) so that much it defines their core personalities? Didn't know it was like that. I thought maybe they possible had diverse personalities- some that like them and some that don't. I mean, that's the reason I liked Praxis in the first place, because I thought it doesn't let one profile define the entire species.

(Off topic, but just verified that most snakes don't take even care of their young.)

I usually like to use the base myth to define important traits, then I add more around them, like the seamstress section and Timid mentioned in his Miracle Handbook that Praxis Lamia may in fact be good at yoga due to muscle coordination which I mentioned based on the black mamba. But ofcourse they will have diverse personalities, it's just that all of them are pretty much drawn to children in that way :^^;:

Anyone ever want to dance with a polimana? This is what it would look like! This is an early look, I will be doing many more adjustments before I draw the actual lineart. Also this is a very ambitious piece, it is difficult to imagine this position. I have only been able to do it like this so far, thanks to the fact that I do swing dancing!

Very neat pose, the foreshortening is pretty difficult to do, especially with two hands (which are challenging to draw by themselves)
so close together. :J

Seeing as you liked it so much, here is an update of this picture

I still have to fix that hand as it isn't completely correct, but it is getting there I think.

Also, here is the latest on Aluraune!

Yeah, the position of the hand might not be ideal, but the shape slooks pretty darn accurate to me. :3 Her expression is lovely too. :3

Same for the Alraune by the way, that face tells you exactly what she has in mind. X3 Again, loving the colours, the heart-shaped textures on her leaves are an excellent touch. :3

Those aren't her leaves, those are her petals :info: Thank you and she is actually almost complete.

Lorelie in progress! I finally decided the rest of her outfit and pose. She is wearing a wraparound skirt to cover her lower regions. I have also added her other wing (haven't drawn feathers yet.) and an attempt at talons (I might make them bigger) I am planning on going with a Rem colour scheme (Feathers suggested blue hair and I love Rem so pale skin and blue hair...yum!)

That lorelie is out of date, but I want to share the latest piece of art I am working on, a different view of the demon kingdoms. To do this one I modelled hill with a slope, and used it as a reference for this pathway running down a hill towards a town in the distance.

The modeled hill and slope reminds me of late Autumn weather and admittingly, I initially mistook the town for a graveyard in the distance.

Those "stones" are actually just a place holder so that I know where the town is going to be. Here is an updated image:

Of course I still have to add the forest undergrowth and more trees as well shadows, etc... But I am happy with how it is turning out! :^^:

Lineart is being drawn and cleaned up as we speak. I still have to add her carvings, but she will be leaning on the railing of her ship with some ghost fire hovering around her.

Cute and elegant is what I think of it. Though I admit I generally comment on a finished product. Looking forward to it.

You had to put the big boobs right in the center of the image. I don't know, she lost her "cute" for me there, and moved into the "sultry" territory in my opinion.

I am really pleased with how the phantom ship is turning out! These are the base colours I chose so far. I like the idea of periwinkle hair and eyes, though I was also thinking of possibly giving her brown hair. Her skirt is going to be in naval colours, so it will eventually be navy blue with gold braiding. What do you think?

About the Phantom ship picture. Maybe I'm seeing things but in the close up picture of the face, her ears are not pointed like in the full body picture. Maybe that is the way it should be? Would not what you to have to redo anything that is not needed or you just did not change it yet, since the picture is not near complete. Just a minor nitpick.
