Yes, there's a real story in my country where a restaurant asked a music group to sing for free, because it will give them "promotion", and the group responded with a letter saying they were Ok with it, but they would take all their friends to drink for free, so the restaurant could promote themselves .

I've had quite my few battles myself with people who consider that drawing artists should not be paid.
