Remember Tetris Attack?

It turns out that Doki Doki Panic wasn't the only game that got the Mario coat of paint. What we know as Tetris Attack, started in Japan as this. I can only surmise that it was considered too cutesy for American gamers, and was altered into the Yoshi themed version we have now.

Personally, I would've preferred the cutesy version.

I knew about that one too. I played the crap out of Kirby's Avalanche. I just don't understand why localizers felt the need to oust everything Japanese from video games back in the day.

I love Tetris, but the original is still my favorite! I don't know what level I made it too, because they eventually turned into hearts instead of numbers I think. It was at least 15+ though and after I lost I saw a rocket taking off (which I thought was amazingly awesome when I first saw it ^^;)

I have Puyo Puyo and Tetris Attack too. TAttack was really easy but in Puyo I don't have a translation so I just played vs. mode. I love Harpy and Seriri too, such sweet and memorable MGs! ^_^

Siren references FTW!

Hahaha but it's so cute! Voice acting was so bad in a lot of early anime!

I just don't understand why localizers felt the need to oust everything Japanese from video games back in the day.
Those were other times and the way people thought back then was different.
As for the reasons that lead to that kind of actions... If I had to guess they were mainly due to marketing reasons, I mean... non Japanese people knew more franchises like Kirby, Sonic, Mario... than the original creations. So they would probably thought that appealing to franchises that already had a big and known fanbase outside Japan would definitely help them to sell more copies...

.P.S.: Feathers (I'm not still used to call you by this screen name ^^U), Puyo Puyo series has being around for quite a while and there are games that actually came out of Japan (such as Puyo Puyo Fever (for instance)), be sure to check it out if you enjoy the series ^^

Oh GODS yes! Tetris Attack and it's extension games of the future have to be my all-time favorite puzzle gaming series ever. Thing I hated was that Puyo Puyo the 15th Anniversary never made to the States where it SHOULD have been. From the Tetris Attack style arc, I own'd so much on Pokemon Puzzle League and Planet Puzzle League.
You know what the problem is with motivational speakers? They speak to much. Nowadays, the analogy "actions speak louder than words" is regarded so much as the norm that whenever motivational speakers do what they came for, nearly every person making up their audience couldn't really give any less of a flyin' fuck.

Aaaah, Tetris Attack.

Would always play Kamek if possible, and one way or another boost my stack ridiculously high and start making 4-or-5 Combos, Chains where they showed up but rarely above 2 or 3 . . .

. . . and flooded my enemy's screen with Garbage Block after Garbage Block after Garbage Block, and if a Shock Block found its way in there so much the better, free pedastal for the next wave. Even if they cleared them all, that was still mass they had to work through.
Any landing you can walk away from . . .

After me and my bro saw Panel de Pon, we NEVER wanted to know about the Yoshi version again.

He, because he adores cute things and admits it. There's even some H of the girls floating around.

Me, because I flat out couldn't take the shock of the sheer copy. (yes, Doki Doki Panic is a copy too along with some Sega games for Mga Drive and Master System receiving Monica's Gang treatment, but those are slightly different stories)
