That is NOT a troll, that's a Huldra (a creature from Scandinavian lore known for having a cow (or fox depending on the version) that she's ashamed of showing).

That's a possiblity. Still, when I see her ears and tail, as well as those big hands and feet, the ones that (for some odd reason) come to mind are the Trolls from David the Gnome. Although considering that there's virtually no chance that KK ever watched that cartoon, I guess it's just a coincidence....

Heck I almost forgot about that series and its emotionally tear-jerker of a last episode (oh man... the feels...x_X)

I somehow doubt it that there would be a connection (it would be a huge and proud "take that!" to see Kenkou getting inspiration from a Spaniard mid 80's cartoon no less), since they were pretty much a bunch of belligerant sleazeballs.

I love the way Maou (Or better said, Kenkou) turns all the weaknesses of the monsters into some sort of strength and/or peculiar characteristics. In some myths, trolls turn into stone when they are hit by sunlight. Oh and by the way, trolls also have a tail; actually they possessed a varied range of forms from monstrous to human like. There were even ones who were indistinguishable from humans but, like Kenkou stated, lived in basements in human settlements.

Now for those saying that she is based on the Huldra, well the answer is no. In the myth, there were stories where the Huldra possessed a cow tail, while in other stories, she had a fox tail and a hollow-covered back.

Here are the two most common common depictions of the huldra.

The troll might look similar thanks to the tail depicted in the picture, but the huldra was pretty human looking. Also, although they were petite looking maids, huldras were very strong, capable of twisting iron and steel with their bare hands when pissed and their tails (in the case of cow tailed huldras) can be used as weapons.

And about the trolls in David the gnome, I could say yes. If I remember correctly, that was one of the most popular interpretation of trolls, such interpretation appeared in a lot of children's books. Also, here is a traditional depiction of trolls.

Lookin' forward to seeing what curious quirks come out of the woodwork for this one through the translation (as at the time of posting I don't think there's one out yet), but so far I gotta say her design so far is kinda endearing already.
