Do you mean the concept of a panda person that always knows bad ass kung fu or the movie series?
If you mean the first, yes it is starting to be a trope, and we can't help that. Panda's are Chinese and so is Kung Fu, someone, somewhere, somehow was going to combine the two.
If you mean the second, decent enough movies, I would rate between 75 to 85%, which is high considering I don't usually like Jack Black.

Not cuddly enough IMHO...
I was expecting some sort of mention of hugs in there... Heck, he missed the chance with the grizzly and he missed it again here (and now was specially fitting)

Oh well, it's still a nice enough profile.
Her behavior kinda reminds me to the Inari modus opeandi and her design is is pretty well thought (the ear scrunchies and the two toned hair are nice touches).

Well, TBH, I was certain she would have a nice and cuddly personality; had KK given her a violent or aggressive personality, his fans would've raged at him. After all, pandas are synonym to cute an cuddly in like 90% of the world.

And once again, I agree with Kaijin; not using the panda hug reference was a waste of potential. Just imagine how many memes it would've sprouted....

Sadly, it seems like there's no folkloric myth behind her; she's just an MG-fication of the cute and cuddly panda. Not like that makes her any less cute, though.

I just posted a link in my previous post... But oh well...

A type hug that expresses more affection than a hug and sounds cuter than saying hug.

Also accompanied by the fact that see pandas (both giant and red pandas) hugging other members of their kin and even humans (when in captivity) is fairly common, eventually lead to the birth of an adorable, adorable meme...

I could use one right now
