My... That's a pretty uncalled for name there... "Fresh Water Eel Hooker" (Unagi is the term for the fresh water eel, sea eels are known as "anago" in Japan).
And... Unlike other entries like the Kejoro or the Jorogumo that are based on youkais that are actually called like that in Japan's lore, Unagi here has no connection, as she is not even based on a youkai whatsoever but rather on an actual animal (Anguilla Japonica, aka Japanese fresh water eel or Unagi).

The closest this lass has to being a hooker is sexual innuendo behind her words... like almost the overwhelming majority of Zipangu's "fauna".
Unagi Onna (Fresh Water Eel Woman) or specially Unagi Ningyo (Fresh Water Eel Mermaid/ Fresh Water Eelmaid) would have made more sense AND justice to her... But whatever...better call her hooker for the heck of it. ¬¬#

Putting her unjustified naming aside...

Like I stated before I like her looks quite a lot, as she's quite appealing and accurate to the species she's trying to allude... also the fact that her upper half looks incredibly similar to a certain sea dweller helps a lot ^^
Also I happen to find her modus operandi pretty interesting as it kind of reminds me to a fisherman to some degree: She doesn't tangle her "prey" herself but rather lets him tangle himself on his own so she only has to reel him in and enjoy the spoils... That's a pretty clever and refreshing way to implement her.

And last but not for that least... Full body coilhugs without having to cope with yandere insanity nor venom? That's one heck of a plus. I'm not fond of the food spiking but then again most of Zipangu's "fauna" does something similar (as it's not much different than an Inari pouring her demonic energy inside her husband or a Yuki Onna's heart chilling breath).

I think I have a new favourite mermaid: I'm sorry Merrow but you'll be slipping away in favor of Unagi Ningyo ^^

I'm not sure what you mean here, are you asking if the man does nothing but have sex and then go to work? The basic KC answer would be that it depends on what the man and his wife want. But overall the profile doesn't make it sound like there lives are nothing but work and sex. At the very least there is also cooking.

Plus she is stated to be a typical Zipangu monster girl wife despite the intense amount of energy and lust beneath the surface, so chances are most couples lead pretty "normal" lives by monster standards, with sex more or less being as frequent as meals.

Basically it's still the same thing (courtesan and hooker and synonyms after all).
And still doesn't change the fact that the artist/author chose to refer her as hooker for no reason at all (if a flirtatious nature and sexual innuendo made a woman/youkai a hooker then almost every Zipangu entry should be one... Should we refer Inaris as KitsuneJoros from now on by any chance?), so I can only perceive a "not so subtle" rudeness flavor coming from her name.

But oh well... Despite the unfortunate, unjustified and uncalled for naming scheme, like I mentioned what it matters most is that we finally have her here and turned out to be surprisingly decent.

I think KC mentions it somewhere, probably on his enty content, that he choose the term "Joro" instead of "Onna" because he felt like the term best fit her for his already sex themed series. I don't think KC made her name that to be rude but more as a tounge-in-cheek joke with the Japanese audience.

I could get behind that explanation... as long as it ends up becoming a regular naming scheme for Zipangu entries (since pretty much every Zipangu entry is pretty much like this one... So would be no problem to give them all the hooker treatment, right?).
Until (or rather IF) that day comes... I'll be keeping my current opinion in this matter and referring this entry as Unagi Ningyo (as it actually makes a lot of sense due to her being a fresh water eel AND a mermaid).

You can pull whatever stunt you have on your mind off to try and justify it (as it will be better than Kenkou did, using it for the sake of calling her a hooker... and for the lulz (according to lv27_robothero)), but in the very same moment you use such a term on person (or in this case youkai) that doesn't have such vocation it becomes an insult (like in this case).

But hey... to each their own... The fact that I don't find it funny nor fitting and I refrain to abide to such naming doesn't mean that everyone has to do the same.
