Out in distant mountains, a village hidden by high cliffs and low clouds lies the village known as Kakurega. A village of few knowledge and even fewer residents, the land merely stretches a measly ten kilometers wide, surrounded by high mountains. Here during the cold months of the year, snow piles from the cusps of the mountains, making the village a challenge to live in. Here lives the very few, but infamous ninja’s of the night known as the Yamachichi. A nearly extinct group of monsters that have existed long before the era of the current Demon Lord. They are assassins by blood with skills that are to this day unparalleled by even the most well trained of Shinobi’s that the Demon Lord has given risen to. With the effects of the Demon Lords influence spreading through the land, it had affected the Yamachichi to develop more voluptuous bodies, eventually changing the race entirely as a female only group much like all other monsters of this age. Despite the decline in their numbers due to the eventual extinction of the male Yamachichi in addition to their naturally dangerous roles as ninjas, the few that have survived persist in this village today, with the humans of the village existing solely for the race’s benefit.

“Hey, you gotta keep up with us Yuto. We don’t have much time to play today before it gets too cold!” The voices of children echoe through the snowy day. There a group of three boys are seen.

“Geez, can you be any slower Yuto? The sun’s only going to be around for an hour before the mountains cover it! Let’s have a ninja star ball fight before it goes!” The center of the two boys, seemingly impatient for the third, was a boy named Yuto.

“O...okay, you guys know I can’t run as fast as you two. Plus you two always gang up on me. I want to be the one throwing this time!” Wearing a heavy coat and a brown scarf, the boy named Yuto stood out from the other two boys who wore colorful, expensive looking jackets. Having hazel colored eyes and light brown hair to match cut neatly in a near bowl like cut, his bangs cut shorter as to allow him to see.

“Really, you throw? Alright try and throw one at us right now!” Walking up to Yuto, the boy wearing a bright blue jacket walked up to him. Being taller than him, he simply looked down on Yuto.

“Alright, you asked for it!” Though he spoke as sternly as he could, to the two boys, he sounded like a mewling kitten. Crouching down, he piled some snow on his hands to form a sphere.

“Now, throw it at me Yuto!” Wearing a green jacket, the other boy, who was also taller, but a little also fatter than Yuto waved his arms to him “If you miss, we’re going to pelt you!” Gulping in air, Yuto closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh.

“HYAAA!!!” Yelling out a battle cry with his eyes closed, Yuto throws the snowball with all his might. But alas, the snowball only travelled 8 feet before landing on the snow covered ground. When he opened his eyes to look, he saw the two boys stare in shock for a moment before falling on the ground, both laughing as they pointed at him.

“BWAHAHAHA!” The boy in the blue jacket laughed the hardest of the two, pointing at him mockingly as he tried to get up from laughing “Ho-how pathetic! That went Plop before even getting half way to Yusei, you suck!” As he got laughed at, Yuto started to cry from being laughed at.

“So true Hayate! Hey since he failed so badly, I guess we’ll have to really get him this time huh?” With both of the boys gathering their composure, they both started to gather snow from the ground, making a pile of snowballs along the way.

“You guys don’t have to be so mean!” Yuto spoke up trying to dry the tears in his eyes. Born into a lesser known family, Yuto was known to the village as the sickly child. Even amongst the other children, Yuto was especially skinny and frail. Constantly bullied for his weak frame, he was constantly discouraged from the start of his childhood till now. “I just wanted...to be one of the cool ninja’s for once…” He said in between his sniffles. Shaking from crying, he sniffles and cries some more despite his efforts to stop. “I...I wanna be strong, like the-” Before he could finish, he was hit right on the face with one of the snowballs. His head jerking back from the hit, the back of his head hit the snowy ground before covering his face from being hit. Blood started to trickle from under his right hand as the snow behind his head starts to dye red.

“Wanna be what Yuto? Don’t make us laugh you dork! Everyone in the village knows that you have no potential at all to be a ninja! You’re already bleeding from just a snowball to the face!” Yusei’s cold words rang through Yuto’s mind. Trying to ignore the pain, Yuto pulls his upper body from the ground, his eyes still watery from tears, he tries to talk in between his tears.

“But...that snowball...was as hard as Ice...it really hurt!” Before he could react, another snowball hit him on his left temple, knocking him down again on his right side. The sound of the snowball hitting sounded heavy and painful as the skin on his left side turned dark red before more blood leaked from his wound.

“Whoops, were you in the middle of something Yuto? Sorry I can’t tell with you whining like a wittle baby!” Hayate yelled out with both his hands open, focusing the sound right at him “So weak, he’s bleeding already. You can’t even sense the snowballs coming, let alone dodge them like a proper ninja!” Lying in pain, Yuto remained quiet, trying to stifle his tears as he covered his injured left temple and face.

“Meh...this is boring, let's go practice ourselves Hayate. He’s just going to lie there like the weakling he is…” Yusei said as he looked down on Yuto, seemingly disgusted by Yuto.

“Yea let’s get out of here. We’ll have more fun with just the two of us anyway.” Hayate replied as both of the boys left Yuto behind. After about five minutes, Yuto managed to stop himself from crying as he got up. Taking his hands off his face and head, he looked at his blood soaked hands, dripping blood on the snowy floor.

“Those guys...I don’t need them...they’re bullies…” Despite his words, deep inside he was hurting, knowing that the only reason he was accepted and called a ‘friend’ was so he could be used as a punching bag. In the village of Kakurega, only the strong survive as one must prove their power and skill to survive the harsh climates that the village has. It’s only through the kindness of his parents that he managed to survive in the village for this long, nurtured and loved carefully as they hoped that someday, Yuto would grow strong on his own. “Whatever...I don’t need them.” Slapping his face together, he gathers his courage and moves back to his house.

*Meanwhile*

“Okay, one more time…” Somewhere in the outskirts of the village, a young girl is training on her own. Near one of the only two road exists of the village, a small area of dead trees accent the snowy road. In the midst of it, a soon to be prodigy Honokasa trains. One of the few surviving Yamachichi, her blue skin and tendril like purple hair reaches down to her back, the color changing to pink on the tips of each tendril. Wearing a black sweater and wooly brown pants, she dressed prepared for the cold. Around her neck is a colorful scarf, colored blue with yellow stripes. “Tsk...I don’t have much time before lessons start, gotta keep at it!” Speaking to herself, she practices her ninja skills by throwing kunai at one of the dead trees which has a target on it. With each successful bullseye, she steps away six feet, her breathing starting to get rough as her distance increases, her cheeks red from the heat on her face as her striking horizontal slit black pupils accented her otherwise yellow irises. After her seventh consecutive bullseye, she finally misses on her eigth attempt. “Forty eight feet huh? I guess I need to work on my accuracy.” Before she could notice, the sun had finally gone down “It's getting dark...I better get back to the house.” She said to herself before leaving. As night started to rear its head, a snowstorm suddenly brews. “Snowstorm huh? Big deal…” The Yamachichi’s eyes glowed bright yellow, suddenly giving her the ability to see clearer as the density of the snow in her perspective almost seemed transparent, allowing her to see faint silhouettes of the houses.

“Help!” A panicked cry catches the Yamachichi’s attention. Hearing the desperation from the voice, she moved closer to the source until she found a boy wearing a brown scarf. It was Yuto, shaking from both fear and the cold.

“Hey...why the hell are you out here while there’s a snowstorm?” She asked, seeing him crying in fear “Hey answer me!” Yelling out more, she saw Yuto back away from her, falling on his butt as he tries to move away from her.

“GAAAH! Stay away you monster! I’m not tasty I swear!” He said before covering his face.

“MONSTER?! You cheeky little!” From his point of view, all he could see between the darkness and snow around him was two yellow glowing eyes. Scaring Yuto to death. Taking a deep breath after his remark, she walks closer to him until he could see her.

“Huh…” Barely hearing her footsteps on the snow, he takes a peek at her before seeing her brightly colored scarf “A scarf?” Eventually getting close enough to see her full body, Yuto finally relaxed as he saw her “Oh...you’re a Yamachichi…” Putting her right hand out to him, he grabs her hand as she helps him up.

“I don’t appreciate being called a monster you know? I have a name, Honokasa Shishimosu.” She said to him waiting for a reply.

“Oh...I’m sorry. My name is Yuto, Yuto Kawamaki.” Exchanging names, Yuto exhales in relief before continuing “Thanks for helping me. I was on my way back home after seeing the sun go down, but then the snowstorm came out of nowhere.” As he spoke to her, Honokasa just examined him, seeing his head as he had an open wound on his left temple, the blood frozen at this point.

“What happened to you? Did you get attacked or something?” Shaking his head, he looks down before speaking

“No...I was-” Hesitating for a moment, Yuto didn’t want to mention how he managed to get his wound as to not embarrass. “I hit a tree really hard as I ran…” Taking a closer look at his head, she examined that the wound had started to change a dark color, an impending sign of frostbite.

“You fool, why didn't you use something like your scarf to cover up the wound?! With the state it’s in, it's going to get gangrenous!” Saying that, Yuto shook his head in disapproval.

“NO! I can’t, this scarf was hand knitted by my mother, I’d never use it for something like that. Besides it keeps me warm…” Honokasa could barely believe what she’s hearing. To her, materialistic things aside from tools of battle are meaningless, so to hear that the boy cherished a scarf that could have saved his wound the trouble of freezing over, it baffled her.

“How stupid can you be?! Getting sentimental over a damn scarf?” Saying that, the bone chilling wind of the blizzard gust reminded her of the grim situation they’re at. “Look we need to get your damn head checked before the blizzard gets worse. Just hold onto my right arm and stay close!” Nodding, Yuto held onto her arm as instructed. Using her superior sight, she guides them between the trees and other terrain to reach the village houses. But even with her superior sight, the strong cold gusts of wind force her to shut her eyes often less they freeze them. Just before they reached the main entrance, a particularly strong gust knocks both of them over, blowing their scarves away in the process as it untangled from their necks.

“M-my scarf!” Yuto said in a panic as he let go of Honokasa’s hand to try and reach for the scarf. But alas the winds have long blown it away before he could even reach his hand out.

“Dumbass don’t let go of my arm!” Honokasa who got up from her stumble grabbed Yuto’s left arm by force. “Come on we’re here!”

“But my scarf, my mother’s scarf!” Yuto turned to look at Honokasa, tears running down his face. This just irritated her more as his tears were quickly freezing.

“You stupid moron, forget about something as materialistic as a stupid scarf! It blew mine away too and I don’t give a damn!” Scolding Yuto as he fought against her efforts to save his life by wanting to go after his scarf, she forces her hand off him. Turning to her, he closes his eyes as he tried to hide his tears.

“It may be meaningless to you, but it’s precious to me!” Pissing her off even more, Honokasa saw no more reason to argue with him.

“Stupid moron!” Taking a quick step behind him, she swiftly chops the back of his neck as the force of it quickly knocked him out. Grabbing him by the shoulders before he could hit the ground, she slumps his right arm around her shoulders as she carries him to her home. When she got home, she laid Yuto on her futon bed, covering his shivering body with her blankets nearby.

“Why am I doing this…” She questions herself before looking around her home, getting to a cabinet that was filled with medicinal herbs, wraps, and tonics. “Now let’s see…” Lighting one of her lanterns on, she examines Yuto’s wound on his head. Still frozen over. “I’ll have to melt it gently without burning him…” Preparing a hot towel, she puts a pot on her campfire stove and lights the wood under it. Then placing a towel inside, she waits for the water to reach sufficient heat while she stares at Yuto.

“Getting attached to something worthless in battle...what utter garbage. If anything my scarf was nothing but a liability, always getting caught on tree branches or being set on fire by my own attacks. It’s colorful and flashy, and not to mention too long for any practical ninja use.” Making sure his condition isn’t worsening, she gently wipes the left side of his bangs to see the extent of his head injury. “He was hit by something hard, like a ball. Probably a rock or even a snowball. Whether he was attacked or playing, clearly the ones who threw stuff at him didn’t care whether these injuries would kill him or not.” Getting up, she checks on the pot as it reached sufficient heat, using a ladle to pull the hot towel out. Going back to Yuto, she gently places the towel on his frozen would, slowly melting away the dark red blood that had frozen over as well as the frozen tears that kept his eyes shut using the other end of the towel. After clearing the ice off, she uses red colored tonic and placed the solution on his wound.

“This stuff would normally sting, but considering how I knocked him out, it won’t be an issue…” Talking to herself, she gently applies it across the length of his head wound before putting proper gauze and bandages around it, covering the left portion of his forehead. After examining him further, she sees bruises on his arms, chest, and even his legs. “These bruises aren’t serious or anything, but I should rub tonic on it anyways so that they can heal faster.” Doing just that, she applies them gently on each bruise. After finishing, she stored all her medical supplies back on her cabinet and sat next to him. Letting out a big sigh, she stares back at him with the corner of her left eye, staring at his bandaged wound.

“That will most likely scar...it could have been healed nicely if he had just used that damn scarf to cover it. Would have made removing the dried fabric a bitch to clean off his wound but at least his scarring wouldn’t have been as bad…” Thinking back at what he said, she remembers how she got her own scarf.

*Five years ago*

“Mama, don’t go! You said we’d practice kunai throwing techniques today!” The soft spoken Honokasa, who was six at the time, was tugging hard on her mother's arm with all her might, trying to stop her from moving.

“Daughter dear, I know I said I would, but mommy has to do a mission for the sake of the village. We need to protect our merchants from any rivals. Otherwise we won’t have delicious food like your favorite sweet potatoes to eat…” Turning to her daughter, she was a twenty seven year old Yamachichi, bearing a more voluptuous figure, wearing a revealing Yukata that showed her bare breasts in full display, a colorful scarf adorned her neck as well. “I promise I’ll be home by tomorrow okay dear?” She said before pondering for a moment, she then looked down and smiled at the young Honokasa before taking off her scarf, wrapping it around Honokasas neck.

“Your scarf mama?” Tilting her head in confusion, she places both her small hands on the five foot long scarf that was wrapped around her neck, feeling the warmth if gave, it made her cheeks blush slightly.

“It’s getting cold dear, stay warm and wait for mommy like a good girl alright?” Kissing her forehead, she walks off from her home and waves goodbye to Honokasa before closing the door.

“Be careful mommy…” Clenching her new scarf tightly. She embraces it before staring out of the window of her house as she watched her mother disappear in the distance. One day after her mother's departure, she hasn’t come back. Then another day passes as Honokasa finally hears of her mother’s whereabouts. Leaving her home with her scarf wrapped around her neck, she sees the group of villagers gathered near the entrance of the village, only to find a body bag placed right on the entrance of the village. Inside the bag was a blood covered body, with only the right arm exposed. The arm was blue in color and was covered in bruises and cuts. As Honokasa started to realize who the body was, she looked further down the length of the arm only to find that the fingers on the hand were sliced clean off. Honokasa’s eyes widened in shock before a fellow ninja, a man by the name Kanabe placed his right hand on Honokasa’s head . She turned to the man before he lowered himself, a grim expression was written all over his face.

“Honokasa...I’m so sorry my dear. In your mother’s attempts to save my life during a mission, she had protected me from the enemy, sadly costing her life.” Bowing his head to her, she saw tears run down his face “She...she could have gotten away but...she insisted on going after her wedding ring which was cut off along with her other fingers after an intense kunai knife fight against a low life bandit. They took advantage of her panicked state when she tried to reach for her wedding ring as they all jumped at her at once, stabbing her in the chest when she wasn’t looking.” He looks back at the body bag “Your mother was the very epitome of strength and ninja mastery, it’s a shame that she lost her life when she protected me by guarding me from an attack…” Half of his words fell on deaf ears as all Hoinokasa’s mind focused on were the words dead, wedding ring, my fault, guarded, and ninja.

“...” Trembling, Honokasa pushed Kanabe on the ground, jumping on his chest before flailing her arms in anger at him, beating him with her hands “DAMN YOU!!! You bastard give mommy back! You were weak and got my mom killed you bastard!”Making no attempt to shield himself, Kanabe simply turned away as to not look at Honokasa right on her face. His face filled with shame. Tears ran down Honokasas face as she kept trying to beat him up, but then she stopped and turned to the body bag that housed her dead mother “Mo…mommy!” She got off Kanabe and started to shake the body bag “You promised to come back and help me practice my Kunai throwing technique! Why did you have to die WHY?!” Getting more teary eyed than before, the people around her all gasped in shock as she was carelessly disrespecting her mother’s dead body by shaking it around. Noticing the hesitance around the villagers, Kanabe pulled her away from her mother’s body.

“Honokasa, that’s enough. No amount of tears or yelling is going to bring her back.” Honokasa, who felt Kanbe’s arms reach for her shoulders, shrugs him off and turns to him for a brief moment.

“Let me go! You damn bastard you killed my mommy!” Flinched by her harsh words, he hesitates for a moment as she stares for a moment at his saddened expression before turning back to her mother “Mom please you’re just joking right?! There’s no way someone as strong as you would make such a mistake, please don’t leave me like daddy did mommy!” Hearing those words, Kanabe’s eyes widened for a moment.

‘You...didn’t tell her...no I suppose not. She’s far too young to know the truth yet isn’t it Azu-san…’ Thinking to himself for a moment, Kanabe closed his eyes and bit his lip in regret before changing the shape of his right hand into a chopping shape “I’m sorry Honoka, this will hurt only for a brief moment…” With a flash, Kanabe struck Honoka on the back of her neck with hand, stopping her movements.

“Mo...mmy…” Quickly losing consciousness, she reaches her right hand out to her mothers exposed right hand, gripping the top of her mother’s hand before falling asleep.

“I’ll...take her back home. Please give Azu-san a proper burial…” Speaking to the other villagers present at the time, they all nod at his request as he picks Honokasa up from the ground and gently carries her on his arms “I’m so sorry Honokasa, I don’t expect you to forgive me. But I hope as you get older, you’ll grow up to be a fine kunoichi that blends in the shadows as well as your mother, maybe even better than her.” Walking back to her home, Kanabe goes back to her house and gently places her on her bed. “Hmm…” Pulling out the wedding ring which Azul was desperate to keep “Now...I can’t really trust Honokasa to keep an eye on this, she’ll probably blame it on this ring that her mother died.” Thinking of what to do with the scarf, he looks at the yellow and blue colored scarf that Honokasa had on her “My...what a beautiful scarf. Azul loved wearing that even if it did compromise her on her missions.” Staring at the ring on hand and the scarf, he gets and idea “I know…” He gets down on his knees as he slowly lifts Honokasas head so he can remove the scarf around her neck “Now then…” Looking around, he saw a sewing needle on the dinner table in their house. Picking it up, he starts sewing the ring into the scarf itself, carefully concealing it into the fabric “Not my best job...but considering how heavy and thick the fabric is, she won’t be able to tell it’s there unless she really feels around for it.” Staring at Honokasa as he said that, he goes back to her and places the scarf back around her neck. “Rest up child…” Walking away, he leaves their house as Honokasa slept soundly for the rest of the day.

*Present time*

“Ugh...wha…” Slowly opening his eyes, Yuto checks his surroundings as he sees that he’s on top of a bed, feeling something on his head, he feels the clothed bandage thats wrapped around his left forehead “How did-” Before he could finish, he saw a bowl of soup placed next to him. It was a healthy mix of vegetables and beef strips, a spoon was placed inside the spoon for eating.

“So you’re finally awake huh?” Turning around, he saw Honokasa who was carrying her own bowl. She sits next to him “Stupid moron...I had to knock your dumbass out in order to drag you here.” Taking a sip of her soup, she pauses before looking at the window of her house “Look.” Turning to the same window, Yuto saw just how intense the storm outside was. The winds blowing chilling winds as the sounds of gusts echoed through the house, rattling the windows and doors in the house. “How ridiculous...getting so attached over something like a scarf…” Hearing her scold him, Yuto turned to face her before speaking.

“Hey it’s not stupid! That scarf was given to me by my mother who knitted it. It was warm and made me feel safe…” Hearing his words, Honokasa scoffed at his words

“Really? Didn’t keep you very safe from being hit on the head. By the way, I couldn’t say anything at the time because of the situation we were in but…” “Pointing at his head, she glares at him “How did you really get that injury? There’s no way that running head first into a tree caused an injury like that!” Asking him about the incident, he blushed as he had no choice but to say the truth at this point.

“I was forced to play a game with Yusei and Hayate. They pelted me with snowballs, but they purposely packed the snowballs tighl so they’d be as hard as ice balls on the center.” Honokasa’s expression changed and showed deep disappointment for what she heard.

“Wait what, seriously?!” Taking a brief moment, she starts to chuckle “I thought you got an injury like that from a serious spar or something, not a childish game of snowball!” Blushing at her remark, Yuto got from the bed, clutching his right hand into a fist.

“Hey it’s not funny! Yea they’re just snowballs but it still hurt!” Honokasa stopped chuckling before staring at him. Her eyes bored right into his like the eyes of a predator about to pounce on its prey “Guh” Flinching from her gaze!

“You’re part of the hidden village of Kakurega, were the very few survivors of the ancient first world monster assassins known as Yamachichi are born. Here you either grow up to be strong to preserve the proud lineage of the Yamachichi or be bred into an expendable merchant. You don’t have what it takes to be a ninja if you can’t even fight those two idiots back…” Hearing her refer to them as idiots, Yuto shook in surprise by what she said.

“Wait...you know those two?” Confused as how she knows them, Honokasa softly spoke back.

“Those two morons tried challenging me once to a kunai throwing contest. I quickly showed those jerks just how outclassed they were.” Pointing at his soup, she shows an irritated expression “Hey you going to just let the soup I made for you go to waste or what?” Staring at the soup she was pointing at, Yuto sat back down.

“Oh yea...I’m sorry.” Bowing in apology, he takes a sip of the soup which has adequately cooled by now. “Oh!” Tasting her soup, he felt the soft, salty taste of the broth that had the flavors or the beef and hint of fish stock hit his tongue. Then eating the chunks of vegetables from the soup and the beef, he happily eats the soup.

“That good huh?” Honokasa said softly as she watched him eat. This made her feel odd, but in a good way as she let out an unintentional smile, blushing at the fact that he liked the soup as much as he did.

“Huh?” Hearing her speak, he looked up from his bowl and saw Honokasa’s smile. Blushing himself as he saw how cute she looked. Seeing him stare right at her though, Honokasa turned her head away from him.

“Fi-finish your soup already!” Jolting up from her words, he quickly finished sipping the last of the broth before letting out a deep sigh.

“Wow...that was really good…” He placed the bowl gently on the kitchen sink before turning to Honokasa “Thank you very much for the soup. It was delicious. Oh and of course thank you as well for treating my wound.” Bowing in gratitude, Honokasa let out a sigh before speaking back.

“Look...stay away from Hayate and Yusei alright? You may be weak, but I think they’re even weaker for picking on someone that they know is weaker than them. When this storm is over, you can go back home…” Scratching the back of his head, he bashfully admits his mistake before responding.

“Yes of course.” Bowing once again, he just remembered something as he bowed to her “Though it doesn’t seem like the storm will subside for awhile.” He said staring out of the window.

“Seems so. Oh well I guess it can’t be helped. I have another futon. Help me set it up so we can rest for the day.” Finishing her soup, Honokasa places her bowl in the sink as well before pointing at a sliding door in the house “The extra futon is there. Set it up while I go clean our bowls up.”

“Of course.” Doing as instructed, Yuto walks to the door and opens it, finding a second futon. It looked old evident by the dust that had covered it. Pulling it out of the storage area, he also finds a pillow and blanket to accompany the futon and closes the door “Hey this futon seems old. Do you live by yourself?”

“Yes I do. I used to live with my mother, but she died in battle protecting merchants.” Saying so as she cleaned the bowls off using the natural spring water that flowed around the village stream.

“Oh...I’m sorry to hear your loss…” Saying so as he placed the futon next to other one, Honokasa let out a small chuckle “What’s so funny?” He asked her.

“Oh nothing. That fool of a woman could have done her job and even succeed. But instead of that, she got sentimental and it cost her life. She’s nothing but a fool who didn’t even think of her own daughter who was waiting for her at home.” Finishing cleaning the bowls, Honokasa turned to Yuto “A stupid wedding ring...oh and of course protecting her worthless partner who was assigned with her to protect the merchants from bandits, she a failure as both a kunoichi and a mother.” Hearing her speak so ill of her mother, Yuto dropped the pillow and blanket on top of the futon before staring at her with an angered expression.

“Hey now, isn’t that a little mean?! Worthless? Your mother must have loved your father dearly to risk her life for her wedding ring!” Hearing hism retaliate, Honokasa moved towards Yuto quickly, pushing him to the ground as she grabs him by the shoulders.

“How would you know! I don’t need you speaking as if you knew the whole story!” Yuto seemed really passionate about the subject at hand as he mustered the strength to push her off “Wha-” Before she could retaliate, Yuto pulled a reversal and was on top of her instead.

“Yea I don’t know, but even if I didn’t know, I know you’re not supposed to talk about your own mother like that! She did her job, protected the merchants and even her partner!” Invoking her wrath, Honokasas eyes dilated.

“Bastard! You don’t know me! I had no one after my mom died, I was all alone! Don’t you lecture me when you don’t know the pain of loss!” Even after her provocation, Yuto kept a firm grip on her shoulders.

“Yea I don’t know what it’s like to lose someone! But even still, she must have held onto that ring because it gave her strength! Don’t you ever underestimate the power that important items like her wedding ring can do!” Hearing enough of him, Honokasa brushed aside his left hand off her shoulder and punched him right on the left cheek, forcing him off as he got back up shortly afterwards, holding onto his cheeks.

“Precious?! I haven’t even seen my dad! I don’t know what he was like! As far as I’m concerned, he was nothing but a deserter who left mom for dead! Her stuipid attachment for a ring that got her killed is nothing but trouble! I’m glad I never have to see that stupid ring again!” With both of them venting their anger out, their heavy breaths audible from exhaustion. “Anything besides tools of war are nothing but a liability…” Yusei stopped to think for a moment before remembering her wearing a scarf.

“Oh yea? What about that scarf you had on earlier? That has no use for battle, so why did you have it around your neck? I bet it was just as important to you as my scarf was to me!” Honokasa looked away from him as he said that.

“That scarf merely provided minimalistic warmth in the cold. It was useful in its own way. It didn’t get in the way of my training so it wasn’t an issue.” Turning back to him, she stares at him with an intense gaze “Besides, when I become Kunoichi, I was going to leave that scarf here, so it doesn’t become a liability during missions.” Calming down after their fight, Yuto let out a sigh before looking back at her.

“Alright...I’m sorry...I was being insensitive.” Accepting his apology, Honokasa nodded slightly before crawling to her furton.

“Go on...get some sleep. I didn’t hit you as hard as I could have so just brush it off.” Placing the blanket over himself and the pillow under his head, Yuto lays facing away from Honokasa.

“Okay.” Laying in silence for a moment, Yuto never got the chance to ask her age “By the way, you never mentioned how old you are.” A brief period of silence passed before Honokasa replied.

“I’m eleven years old. You?”

“Nine…” Yuto replied back to her. “Even if you’re eleven, it’s hard being by yourself right?” Honokasa looked down to her hands, gripping her bed sheets firmly.

“I’m a kunoichi in training. Being alone is one of the easiest things I can do at the moment. Now go to bed…” With her final words, Honokasa focused on getting some sleep. Yuto pondered for a moment how she became what she is, but he was too tired to go on and slept.

*The next day*

“...” Slowly opening his eyes, Yuto felt the rays of the sun hit his eyes as he slowly opened them, getting up slowly from the futon as he already saw HHonokasa was awake, putting her futon away. “Mornin…” He said softly before getting up.

“Morning. Just pack up the futon. The blizzard finally passed. Once you put it away you can go.” Honokasa said before walking to the kitchen to prep herself some breakfast. After neatly folding the futon and blanket, he puts the futon, blanket,and pillow away and back into the storage room. Afterwards he heads for the door, opening it, the bright light of the sun blinded him for a moment before his eyes have adjusted. Seeing the snow covered plains were the rice paddies of their village was nearby. In the distance beyond the paddies was the other village houses where he resided “Huh...you live far away from the village, huh?” Honokasa walked to the door herself to see him off as he walked outside.

“Yes I live outside the outskirts of the village. It’s easier for me to get to the training grounds and it’s away from the rest of the villagers.” Looking at his bandaged head, she points at his head “Once you get home, take the bandages off and clean it with water. I’m sure you have medical tonics at home so just either apply it yourself or have your mom do it for you. It should heal within a week.” Nodding to her advice, Yuto smiled to her.

“Thank you, oh and Honokasa, I’m really sorry about well…” Before he could finish, Honokasa let out a sigh.

“Look it’s alright. I am aware that every person’s lives and perspectives are different from mine so I apologize as well. I didn’t mean to offend how important the scarf was to you.” Surprised by her apology, Yuto smiled a little before speaking again.

“Thanks, and hey maybe its just out there somewhere, covered in snow. Yours might be out there with it. I’ll give it back to you if I find it, of course.” Smiling herself, Honokasa looked at him with somewhat hopeful eyes.

“Ha well I doubt it, but I suppose I wouldn’t mind if you did find it.” Waving goodbye, she sees Yuto off as he waves back to her. After a few more moments, she closes the door and goes back inside. Leaning her back against the door, she ponders to herself “Sentimental value…” Walking to her kitchen, she stares at the stream of water flowing to her sink, seeing her reflection “Mom...I miss you…” After her breakfast, she headed straight to the training grounds to continue her training. Yuto who made it back home told his mother of what happened to him.

“I see...you know dear, they’re only fifteen Yamachichi’s left in this world. Half of which are secretly hiding around the world. Our villages creation is here for the sole purpose of increasing their numbers. At the moment us human women and men outnumber them due to the need of merchants as well as other professions like shops and such. She must have endured a harsh childhood life. You were four at the time and at a business trip with your father so you weren’t here for that.” Yuto listened carefully to her mother “She blamed everything at that ring that her mother Azul protected, even though I heard that it was lost. Kanbe who retired a year later now works in the paddies as a rice farmer. It left an emotional scar to the both of them.” Interested to hear more about Azul, Yuto interrupted.

“Was she a powerful Kunoichi?” Yuto’s mother smiled at the remark.

“Yes...as far as the village was concerned, she was the strongest person here. But even all her strength couldn’t stop the bandits that went after the merchants she was supposed to protect.” Staring right on Yuto’s eyes for a moment, she patted his head before continuing “Azul loved her daughter and husband very much, but her husband actually had to leave for a mission outside the village before their daughter was even born, so Azul had raised Honokasa as a single mother. She had a lot of fun and actually considered whether she’d continue her career as a Kunoichi after knowing the joys of parenthood. But with her husband still away from his mission, she had no choice but to continue to earn money.” Replacing the bandage that Yuto had on before with a new, clean one, she finishes her story “When she heard that a mission of escorting merchants was up for grabs, she figured it’d be a good way to get Honokasa a new toy or candy. But as you heard she perished in her mission. Beyond what you’ve been told, the only person who knows what happened is Kanbe himself, but he doesn’t want to talk about the incident.” After being patched up again, Yuto smiled to his mother.

“Well I hope someday her father returns. That way they can be a happy family.” With his words, his mother let out a sly smile.

“Or you can help her make a family of her own.” Yuto tilted his head in confusion as his mom mention that.

“Huh? But I’m not related to her mom.” Giggling at his reply, his mother just gently scruffed his hair a little.

“Oh you’ll know what I mean when you get older. Now come on, we got to get ready. We don’t know when we’ll be back at this village so better say your goodbyes. I’m sure that Honokasa girl will appreciate it.” Packing up their belongings, Yuto’s mother and father are traveling to the capital of the demon realm called Cerxis. There the family will speak with other merchants of both human and Mamono alike to discuss traded goods.

“Hey, the carriage is here. Are we all set?” The man who opened their house door was Yuto’s father, a fairly built man, wearing a straw hat “Yuto, Marianne, let’s get going.”

“Yes father.” Yuto replied as he packed all his belongings before walking past his father in a rush “Where’s he going to so quickly?” He asked his wife Marianne.

“Oh, he’s going to say goodbye to that girl Honokasa Akeru dear.” Marianne said to him.

“Really? I didn’t know he made friends with a Yamachichi already. Heh, he may soon be the next person to continue the lineage of the Yamachichi tribe.” He chuckled as his wife laughed with him.

“That’s good, I thought I was the only one who was thinking that dear. I’m all packed myself. Let’s pack up while Yuto’s busy.” Nodding to her, they both headed to the carriage to start packing for their journey. Meanwhile Yuto managing to run to the training grounds where he found Honokasa. Seeing her panting in exhaustion, he saw her supple purple skin shimmer in the light of the day, almost mesmerized by her beautiful curves.

“Hmm?”Feeling eyes bore right at her, she turns to find Yuto intently staring at her “Oh...it’s you. Uh are you just going to keep gawking at me or what?” Hearing her words, Yuto shook his head.

“Oh that’s right, hey I forgot to mention this last night. But I’ll be leaving the Village for awhile. Honestly I don’t know how long we’ll be gone. I just wanted to say goodbye before I left. You know to my first...uh friend…” Raising her right eyebrow in disbelief, Honokasa walked closer to him.

“Wait...I’m your first and only friend? What about Yusei and Haya...you know what never mind. I’m glad you took what I said about them to heart and stopped believing as if they were your friends.” She looked at his newly bandaged head “Heh...it was your mom who did that for you huh? Otherwise it wouldn’t be so neat looking.” She said with a giggle.

“Hey! I can put one on myself too you know!.” Hearing his response just made her chuckle more which at first made him blush, but seeing her laugh and smile like that made him genuinely happy “At least you're smiling and laughing about it.” Realizing what she did, Honokasa stopped and turned her head away from him, her cheeks as red as cherries. “So...I know we haven’t been friends for long at all, but I hope I’ll see you again someday. You’ll still be here right?” Looking back at him afterwards, she saw that for that moment, he looked sad, afraid that his first real friend would be gone by the time he got back.

“I don’t know. It depends on how long it takes you to get back. I may either be gone by then to a place where I’d be assigned as a Kunoichi, or maybe even dead.” Yuto grabbed her hands firmly as she said that, dropping what he was carrying.

“Don’t say that! I don’t want to lose my first friend. I’m sure I’ll make more along the road but...I don’t want anything to happen to my first!” Blushing at his statement, Honokasa smiled to him.

“Alright I promise I won’t. Just....try to get back quickly then alright?” With the both of them smiling to one another, Yuto lets go of Honokasas hand as he picks up his luggage.

“I’ll see you later Honokasa, goodluck with being a Konoichi!” Waving goodbye to her, Honokasa waved back.

“Thanks! Goodluck to you being a merchant too! Bring back some goods, hey maybe some good candy!” she said jokingly to him.

“Ha! Only for you Honokasa!” With those parting words, he runs back to where his mother and father were.

“Only for me…” Honokasa blushed at his remark, smiling “Come back soon…” She said softly, hopeful he’ll come back.

“There you are Yuto, did you say your goodbyes?” Seeing Yuto run to him, Akeru walked towards Yuto and grabbed his bag for him.

“Yea dad. I’m ready.” Patting him on his shoulders, Yuto goes into the carriage where her mother was already sitting in. After Akeru got on the driver's seat, they start heading out from the entrance of the village. As Yuto stared at the village on one of the windows inside, he sees Honokasa, her hands on her knees showing that she probably ran there, then looking back at the carriage where she smiled back and waved.

“Bye...Yuto…” using her keen sight, she saw Yuto on one of the carriage windows, waving back to her “Hehe...bye friend.” Seeing the carriage grow farther and farther away, Yuto has set out with his family to expand their horizons as merchants.

*Ten years later*

“Thank you for your patronage ma’m!” Ten years after his departure, Yuto Kawamaki had grown to be fine merchant. Gaining the knowledge and skills of his parents who now run their very own store in the demon realm capital Cerxis. Being independent for about a year now, Yuto had amassed a large assortment of goods from local meats, vegetables, and fruits, to other useful items such as various tonics, weapons, and even odd items like slime potions. But the stock he has kept that he never traded or sold to the public or his fellow merchants were the various candies and sweets he gathered. Checking his stockpile, he had everything he needed before walking into his parents shop.

“Ah Yuto, going to leave now are we?” Marriane said as she saw her boy, all grown up. His left forehead showing a scar that was mended by Honokasa and his mother years ago.

“Yes mother. Father is still gone, so just say goodbye to him for me. I have lots of rare goods for the village of Kakurage.” Hearing the excitement in his voice, Yuto’s mother smiled before letting out a soft giggle.

“Don’t forget dear, that’s not the only reason you’re excited to return right? I bet you can’t wait to see if Honokasa is still there right?” Blushing at his mother’s remark, he scratches the back of his head from embarrassment.

“Hehe yea. Assuming she’s still there anyways.” He said sounding hopeful.

“I’m sure she is dear. Though you might want to give her gifts slowly, otherwise she may get fat from the treasure trove of candies and sweets you got for her.” Giggling even more, she sees her son just laughing it off jokingly “Oh and of course dear, feel free to marry her too. I want grandkids.” Hearing mother’s tone, he knew she was serious with that one.

“M-mom! We’re just friends!” Yuto’s mother shook her head in disagreement as she just smiled back at him.

“Dear, you’re at that age where it’s perfectly fine to have babies. You already see it countless of times walking around the capital here. Besides I bet Honokasa being all grown up now probably has a bombshell of a body, just like her mother.”

“Mom! That’s...that’s…” Before he realized it, Yuto started to imagine what Honokasa would look like after all those years, picturing her with curvier hips, a fine waistline, ample breasts, and a face of true beauty. “Eh!” Realizing what he was thinking, he quickly shook his head around to get the images off his head “Damit that’s no way to imagine her!” Laughing at his dazed state, Marianne walks closer to her son and hugs him.

“Dear, be careful on your way to Karukage alright?” I’ll miss you, but unlike before, you won’t be gone for another ten years.” She said as she gently rubs the top of his hair “Well...unless you two alope then who knows how long you’ll be gone.” Giggling once again, Yuto sighed as he closed his eyes.

“Geez mom...you’ll never let up will you?” Letting go of him, Yuto walk outside the store and onto his carriage were he sets for Karukage “Bye mother, I’ll be back as soon as I can!” Waving goodbye to her, Marianne sees her son off as he leads the horses pulling the carriage back to the village of Kakurage. After three days of traveling, Yuto had nearly made it to the village as the dawn starts to rise. Seeing the village from the distance in the middle of the mountainous road, he smiles in delight that he’s back “Boy...it doesn’t seem like the village changed at all.” Looking around him, he sees the tree’s that adorn the main road, full of green leaves to indicate the short lived summer months of the year. Then he saw something glimmer on one of the trees to the right. “What’s that…” Stopping the horses, he ties the ropes to control the horses around the wooden fence that follow the main road. Going over it as he ran to the tree. As he got closer, he saw an all too familiar sight “No way…” Slowing down, he walked to the tree, looking up at the branches to see two scarves hanging on the branches. One was brown in color and the other was blue and yellow. The blue and yellow scarf however had something in between its cloth. “These are our scarves. But what’s with the thing between Honokasas scarf?” Curious about what it was, Yuto slowly climbed the tree and carefully grabbed the scarves without tearing them, “Now then...wha-” Before he could finish his sentence, he heard a loud bang to left left “What the ?!” Turning to the direction of the sound, he saw smoke rise from where the village was “Oh no…” Wrapping the scarves around his neck, he rushes to his horses as he rides his carriage to the village.

“Damnit! Where did she go?!” In the village of Karukage, a group of Order soldiers consisting of five men were given a tip about the existence of a village that housed the rare and elusive Yamachichi. Their goal was to find them and interrogate the villagers for information. But before they could even get a chance to talk to the villagers, two of the men there were knocked down in a flash. “You little...I know it’s you damn Yamachichi doing this! Quit hiding like a coward and face me!” Drawing his blade, he wore heavy plated armor with a banner cloth bearing the symbol of the Order on his chest and waist.

“Show myself? You must be joking. A Kunoichi never reveals their location unless compromised...you soldiers lack training,” Seeing a shadow move from tree to rooftops, the figure moves too fast to be seen by even the trained eyes of the Order soldiers.

“Why you, how da-” Before he could finish his sentence, he saw two pairs of gold yellow eyes pop right in front of him, swinging his sword, the set of eyes seemingly dissipate like mist before reappearing behind him “Yo-” At that moment, he felt his achilles tendon on both legs getting sliced “Gah!” Losing his balance, he falls on his two hands before having his triceps brachii muscles getting sliced between the joints of his arm, causing him to fall face flat on the ground, unable to get his balance back “Da-DAMN it!” The remaining two soldiers who saw what happened could only perceive the events in a flash.

“Hey get behind me!” The taller of the remaining two instructed his ally to stand back to back. “This way we can cover our backs!” Hearing a chuckle around them, they heard the Kunoichi speak.

“You think doing that will eliminate the chances of me winning, don’t make me laugh.” With both their swords drawn, they anxiously await for an attack. Just then they hear the sounds of a horse galloping as they see a carriage head for the village “What the?!” Taking the opportunity, the Kunoichi strikes the shorter soldier and slits his throat, slicing through the chainmail that was around his neck with ease.

“What’s going on here?!” Arriving at the scene of the fight, Yuto see’s two of the order soldiers on the ground dead, lying on their own pool of blood. One as alive but incapable of moving. Arriving just as he saw the shorter soldier getting his throat sliced, the figure turned to who showed up mid battle. Stopping her tracks, she recognized his face. Seeing a scar on his left head, this Kunoichi only knew one person who had a scar like that.

“Yu-Yuto?!” Hearing his name, he looked at the figure in front of him. Recognizing her blue skin and striking yellow eyes, it was a Yamachichi.

“A Yamachichi...and if you know my name...that means you’re-” Before he could finish his sentence, he heard a blood curdling scream behind her.

“DAMN YOU!!!” Distracted by Yuto’s arrival, Honokasa couldn’t move away in time before before being stabbed on her back. The sword piercing through her abdomen and out the right side of her gut.

“GAAHH!” Coughing blood, Honokasa managed to use the tendrils on her hair to wrap around his arms to stop him from pushing the blade any deeper.

“HONOKASA!” Without him even thinking to move, his body started to move on it’s own as he ran towards the soldier who stabbed her “Bastard!!!” Clenching his right fist, he aims for the soldiers face as he punches him with all his might. The blow dented his face in as the soldiers front teeth broke into his mouth. Honokasa loosened her grip on his arms just as he got hit. After the blow, the man falls to his knees and falls flat on the ground. Yuto wasted no time as he grabbed Honokasa by the shoulders, gently putting her down her butt so she could sit.

“*Cough* hehe...welcome back Yuto…” Blood trickling from her lower lip, it was clear she was in pain. Yuto stared at her wound for a moment, letting out a sigh of relief after examining it.

“Honokasa, don’t move alright? Your wound luckily isn’t serious. It missed your vital organs. Give me just a sec.” Running to his carriage, he quickly pulls out a brief case before running back to her. He opened it which contained a plethora of Medical brew and potions. “This will sting so bear with me…” Pulling out the cork on one of his medical brews, he applies the liquids on both the front and back her wound. The moment it went on her wound, Honokasa winced in pain.

“Ouch!” Honokasa grabs Yuto’s right arm tightly from the sudden pain.

“He-hey, that hurts Honokasa. I know it stings but I need you to let go of my arm please.” Hearing him, Honokasa let go of his arm “Alright. That should get rid of potential bacterial infection. It’ll also act as coagulant to help thicken the blood faster. But you’ll bleed out if we leave it at that.” He carries Honokasa bridal style, getting blood all over him in the process.

“Yuto...when did you get so strong…” She asked him, her voice whimpering in discomfort.

“Hey, we can talk later. The next parts going to hurt even more so I’ll need you to brace yourself okay? I’ll get us inside the carriage for now so I can do the procedure there.” Carrying her to the back of the carriage, Yuto readies his tools as he had them inside the carriage. A set of surgical needles, wire, scissors, and sanitized cloth “Drink this….” He said handing her a small yellow potion.

“Alright…” Drinking it, it tasted really sweet, but strong like alcohol. “Wha…” Her cheeks turning bright red, Yuto looked at her dazed stare.

“Good, it’s working. That’s alraune nectar that’s been spiked with alcohol. I didn’t think I’d need to have anesthetics with me until my visit after this one, so sorry this will have to do. It’ll help lessen the pain.” Staring back at her wound. He puts on some sterile gloves before grabbing his needle as he carefully starts stitching up her front wound first.

“ahh...Hyaaaa!” Crying out in pain, Honokasa clenches her fists tightly. Her back arching back in response to the pain, Yuto tries his best to work with the situation as he quickly, but carefully sews the first wound shut, using the sterile cloth earlier to soak up the remaining blood and allow the blood to clot around the gaps to close the wound.

“Alright, now turn around okay?” Nodding despite the pain she was in, she turns her back as he saw the stab wound from her back. The wound on her back looked bigger than the one up front. “I couldn’t see it before since I as rushing to apply the brew on her back, but I was hoping what I felt was wrong. This will take a little longer than the first stitching so hang in there.” Getting another surgical needle ready, he starts to sew the wound shut from there.

“GYAAAaahh!” Her back tightening from the pain, Yuto had to stop for a moment as to not make the injury worse.

“Honokasa, listen to me! I know it hurts a lot, but I can't close your wound properly if you keep tensing your back like that! You’re a tough Kunoichi right? This should be nothing to you! I know you can keep still.” Hearing his encouraging words, she musters the strength to hold still long enough for him to finish sewing her back wound close. Placing a different sterile towel on her back to soak up the blood from her back. Her breathing started to slow down before the numbing effects of the nectar was strong enough to numb her pain now that the procedure was over.

“Ha...ha…” Slowing her breath down, she turns her eyes to Yuto as she was laid against the left chair side of the carriage. She examined his grown body. Seeing his arms have grown strong with visible muscles and veins. His shoulders also got broader. She takes a look at his face, his hair has grown a longer length but otherwise the same style. “Lo...long time no see Yuto…” Hearing her weakened voice, Yuto turned to her, showing his exposed gut as he was in the middle of pulling his blood covered shirt up, seeing his four pack gut

“Hey I said take it easy didn’t I? Just stay quiet for now until the pain subsides.” Taking his shirt off, he exposed his chest which defined, but not bulky.

“It’s fine...I can at least talk now you know. I see you got stronger in the ten years you were gone. That’s good.” She smiled softly at him. Yuto sat next to her afterwards, letting out a deep sigh of relief.

“Geez...I get back to Kurokage, only to find that it was attacked by the Order soldiers. I thought they’d never find this place…” Looking at the ceiling of the carriage for a moment, he stares back down at Honokasa who was now shorter than him. He stares at her blue skin, as supple as he remembers. Her chest had grown significantly to the point that they sway with even the slightest movement, with the only thing covering her nipples being a black tube top which actually seems too small for her.

“Yuto?” Hearing his name, he quickly turned his head in the opposite direction as to avoid being caught staring at her chest. “Those men...they were apparently given a tip about this place by the local bandits that often try to pillage the village. From the years you were gone, the first half we had two other Yamachichi as well as some villagers defending this place from those bastards. But the other half of the years you were gone, the Yamachichis that were here all left to missions on other foreign lands, leaving me the only Yamachichi left to defend this place. The villagers were still here of course, but they weren’t nearly skillful in combat, so I had to up my training until I got stronger…” As he listened to her story, Yuto looked back at her body. Closely examining her body showed scars all over her arms and even legs. They didn’t seem as deep as her gut wound, but it was still noticeable.

“Honokasa...those scars. Did you get them from your time protecting this place alone?” Nodding at his words, Honokasa looked down on her scars, disappointment written all over her face.

“Yes...I had not realized just how weak I was until I had to practically fight by myself. The Other Yamachichi picked up for my slack and I didn’t even notice it. I was so ashamed by these scars at first, constant reminders that I lacked in training. So I trained and trained even harder each day, even when I thought I couldn’t handle anymore, I kept at it until I improved on everything from my physical abilities to my ninjutsu techniques. Eventually I did manage to attain the strength I seeked, and before long, I was so good that most of my opponents couldn’t even see me before I even struck them down.” While intently listening to her, Yuto’s eyes bore deeper on her gut, bearing strong, defined muscles that made his gut look out of shape in comparison. He was only able to see clearly now that he had cleaned the blood off. Her arms and legs were also muscular, with her thigh muscles being particularly thick.

“Holy...crap…” He said softly. Seeing his eyes fixated on her muscles, Honokasa blushed slightly and smiled.

“And here I thought my muscles and scars would have grossed you out. I guess I was being self conscious for nothing you little freak…” Teasing Yuto, he blushed red before moving back slightly, waving his arms in denial in a panic.

“Wha?! I’m no freak! I was just admiring your muscles is all!” Honokasa turned towards him, moving closer until her face was mere inches from his.

“Most guys prefer women with curvier figures and smooth skin. My skin is smooth, but covered in ugly scars, and I overdid it on my training and got a little more muscular than I would have liked. So yea you’re definitely still weird.” His face contorting in confusion, he just looked away in embarrassment, blushing red from his cheeks.

“Well anyways, your injury will probably take a month or so to fully heal. I don’t think you’ll be able to do your job as a Kunoichi until it heals.” Turning back to see her, he places his left hand on her gut to where the wound was. “You wouldn’t have gotten such a bad wound if I hadn’t distracted you, I’m sorry.” Seeing his face with regret, Honokasa grabbed his left hand with her right. As he looked at her face, she shook her head at him, denying that it was his fault.

“The fault’s mine. I shouldn’t have gotten distracted so easily. I was trained better to focus on the enemies until they’re all dead.” Then seeing something behind him, she sees two scarves, both of which were covered by her blood in some spots, but she recognized them right away “Hey...aren’t those.” Turning to where she was looking, Yuto nodded to her.

“Yup, that’s our scarves that we lost during that blizzard. I’m surprised they survived or didn’t get stolen after all these years. Grabbing Honokasas scarf, Yuto showed her a part of it that had some sort of metal sewed in it. “This thing was shimmering in the light which allowed me to see it from a distance. Now I wonder what it is.” Carefully untangling the object, it became clear to Honokasa what it was.

“N...no way…” Grabbing the scarf from Yutos hand, she pulls the rest of the strands off it to reveal a ring, and a wedding right at that. It was silver in color with a small gem affixed to its front. The gem was blue in color “I thought my mom lost this when she tried to take it back...Kanbe said...Kanbe…” Getting up quickly, she winced slightly from getting up suddenly, agitating her wound.

“Hey, take it easy Honokasa, your injury just got stitched up!” He said as he grabbed Honmokasa from her shoulders.

“I...I need to ask Kanbe...my mother’s partner that she was assigned with when she was on her mission! I need to know why my mom’s ring was in my scarf the entire time!” Seeing the tears run down her face, Yuto exhaled softly before speaking.

“Old man Kanbe right? If he still lives in the same place, then I’ll take you there. Just lay down please and I’ll take the carriage there.” Seeing that he wouldn’t let her go on her own, Honokasa relented as she sat back on the carriage seat inside as Yuto went outside. There he got a closer look at the carnage that unfolded. Four of the soldiers were dead with the one who had his arm and leg muscles cut staring up at Yuto.

“Wait...I know you...you’re that illegal merchant who kept slipping in goods from Order controlled villages. Heh...when they find out that this is where you frequent, they’ll hunt you down along with the rest of the heretics that live in this place.” Unmoved by his threat, Yuto saw the other villagers as well as one of the Yamachichi walk towards him.

“Hey...you’re one of our Kunoichi right?” Yuto asking the Yamachichi. She had a more kempt look than Honokasa, tying her hair to a long, straight look. She was taller, but slimmer than Honokasa.

“Yuto...huh...it’s been a long time since I saw you. You were so scrawny and weak, but now you at least have a decent build.” Looking around her, she motions the villagers to take the dead bodies away. “I was away from a mission and got back just about an hour ago. I’m sorry I couldn't get here before these bastards attacked. I heard from the witnesses that Honokasa was injured.” Yuto nodded, followed by him looking down, clenching his fists as he reminded himself that it was his fault. “Heh...don’t sweat it Yuto. What matters is that she survived thanks to you. I dont plan on going anywhere for awhile so just make sure she doesn’t do anything stupid and make her injuries worse.” The Order soldier who was still alive looked up at the Yamachichi.

“You and your damn species. We can’t let you vile bitches live. It’ll disgrace us soldiers if people of fate find out that we couldn’t eradicate a race that was supposed to be exti-” Before he could finish his sentence, she stepped on his head, pushing his face back to the ground.

“Shut up. You threaten our village who had no interest in being found out by you bastards. I’ll make sure to properly interrogate you and find out just how you found out about this place. Get ready because I won’t go easy…” Saying that, she grabs him by his right leg “I’ll be going Yuto, say hi to Honokasa for me.” Smiling to him, Yuto nodded back to her with a smile.

“Sure thing….uh….” Letting out a disgruntled sigh after realizing that he doesn’t know her name, she simply shrugs at him.

“It’s Vespa kid. Later.” Waving bye with her free hand, she starts to drag the soldier on the ground. Letting out obscenity as he was dragged.

“Oh...uh bye.” He said softly before getting on the carriage drivers seat.

“Hey, what’s taking so long? Honokasa asked in the carriage. He turned to her to answer her.

“Sorry, I was talking with one of the Yamachichi who got back. Her name was Vespa.” Hearing her name, Honokasa gasped in surprise.

“What? We thought she died. Well I guess I’ll ask her more in detail later. Let’s go.” Nodding to her, Yuto drives the horses to their destination where Kanbe was living. After passing through the rice paddies, they find a man who was in the middle of one. Wearing a straw hat to shield his face from the sun, he still looked fit for an old age of sixty five. Planting the next seeds gently, the man turned to see Yuto’s carriage.

“What’s that a carriage? And is that Yuto driving it. My word I haven’t seen the child in awhile.” Placing the bag of seeds he had on hand, he walked towards the carriage as Yuto parked it near Kanbe’s home.

“Kanbe right? I haven’t seen you in a long time.” Yuto said, only seeing and waving at him in occasion every time he passed by his paddies as a child.

“Indeed it’s been awhile.” Hearing the passenger door open, he saw Honokasa walking out, hunched over with her right hand over her wound “”Honokasa, what happened to you?!” He asked as he ran towards her, making sure she was alright

“Yea I’m alright. There were Order soldiers who came and tried to interrogate the villagers earlier, but I managed to stop them before they got the chance. Though because of a rookie mistake I let my guard down and got stabbed.” She turned to Yuto afterwards “He patched me up though so as long as I don’t strain it, I should be okay.” Letting out a sigh of relief, Kanbe relaxed before looking at Yuto.

“Oh I see, I heard a loud noise before, but I dismissed it as something unimportant so I ignored it. I’m sorry.” Bowing in apology, he shifted away from the subject before speaking again. “So Yuto, Honokasa, why did you come here? I don’t have any medical supplies if that’s that you came for.” Shaking his head, he points to Honokasa.

“No were not here for that. Honokasa has something important to ask you.” Turning to Honokasa, Kanbe was curious as to what she wanted with him.

“Kanbe, you said that my mother's wedding ring was lost in that battle with the bandits. But I have it right here.” Showing him the ring on her hand, Kanbe’s eyes widened a little before closing them, exhaling in a relieved manner “Why was my mothers ring sowed into my scarf?”

“I have meant to tell you eventually. But I didn’t think you found your scarf after it got lost in the blizzard ten years ago so I decided to keep it a secret at that point. But that’s different now that you have it. Come inside my home. I’ll explain everything there.” Going on ahead, he opens the door for the two and invited them inside his home. There they saw his old Ninja gear hanging on the walls of his house. From garbs, to weapons. Almost the entirety of his houses walls were occupied with some item related to his past occupation.

“Wow so this is the house of the Kanbe, master of the universal arts.” Kanbe before he retired was known as a Ninja who was so skilled that not even the top highest Mamono Kunoichi could beat. What he lacked in their unique abilities and strengths, he made up for mastery of his weapons and tools.

“Alright then. Take a seat here.” He pulls out two chairs from his dining table before taking another one for himself. As Yuto and Honokasa sat down, Kanbe started to speak. “Honokasa, your mother never explained why your father was gone for so long right?” Honokasa nodded at his question.

“Yea. I never met my father once. He was said to be a really strong ninja right?” She asked. But Kanbe shook his head.

“No not at all. Your father Huntson was actually a traveling performer. He had no battle capabilities whatsoever. Instead he was talented at street performances like magic tricks and illusions.” Honokasa slammed her hands against the table. The sudden movement caused her stomach to ache in pain

“Gah.” Sitting back down as she hunched over, she held her stomach with her arms to brace the pain.

“Hey didn’t I say to take it easy Honokasa. Please don’t make sudden moves like that!” Placing his hands around Honokasas knees, he begs her to be careful.

“Sorry. Pl-please continue.” Settling down, Kanbe continued his story.

“Your father met your mother during one of her missions. She had a job to assassinate a Merchant who was threatening to reveal the location of the village to the Order soldiers. When she succeeded, she had spare time so she went around the town incognito afterwards to look around. It’s hard to move around in a city that was occupied by nothing but humans and the Order zealots. But as she was walking, she couldn’t help but look at a man who was performing in the middle of the town plaza. There she saw your father Huntson. He wasn’t very good at his profession, often either failing his own magic tricks or having his illusions easily debunked. Just as he was about to pack it in for the day. He saw your mother staring at him. He walked towards her without hesitation and asked her if she was interested in seeing a trick for some coin. But as he got closer, he saw her face.” Honokasa who felt better after resting interrupted him.

“Hey how do you know all of this? Were you there when it happened?” She asked.

“Oh no. Your mother simply talked to me about it whenever we had spare time during our missions. She really loved your father because for the time that they were together, she’d always bring him up at every opportunity she had. I never thought Yamachichi’s could ever be so lovestruck, but there your mother was, never tiring of speaking about her beloved. Anyways when your father saw her face, she immediately pulled him along with her to an empty alley between the city slums. She simply said to him…’now that you’ve seen my face, I can’t let you live. Nothing personal.’ She was about to kill him, but then he surprised her with his response, saying ‘Oh wow! A Mamono,. I thought you guys weren’t real! How cool is that. You guys don’t seem too different from us so why do the Order soldiers want you dead?’ This perplexed her to the point that she let go of him. She mentioned that through her career as an assassin, she had never met a man like him who wasn’t afraid of her.”

“He sounds like a good, but odd man. Was he raised in a town where Mamono don’t live?” Yuto asked.

“Yes. From what Azul-san, Honoka's mothers name by the way, mentioned that she was in one of the Order controlled towns called Derdra. Huntson has probably never seen a Mamono besides her. So for him to react the way he did, it took Azul-san by surprise. But she knew that despite that, her position could have been compromised, so she tried to kill him.” With both Honokasa and Yuto waiting bated breath for the next part “But she ended up not being able to do so... because reciting the very same words that Huntson said to her. ‘Wait, what if I just marry you?! You’re way different from what those nut job Order soldiers always say! So beautiful, I must marry you!” Hearing how her own father spoke, Honokasas jaw dropped in disbelief. Seeing her reaction, Kanbe chuckled a little before continuing. “From what she said, she was so awestruck that she was literally dragged along to go with his whims. They both departed Derdra that day and returned to Kurokage a few days later. I’d tell you more but Azul-san was too embarrassed to mention what happened between them during their journey back here.” Yuto laughed a little after hearing how her father was like.

“He must have been a handful. To make even a trained Yamachichi like her to get flustered and give in to his whims like that.” Kanbe nodded in agreement.

“Yes indeed. Hunstson was quite a man. When they arrived at Kurokage, he lived here along with Azul-san for the next year. Azul-san loved Huntson almost unconditionally, acting completely different from how she normally would be whenever he was around. He always had an air around him that radiated joy and happiness. Even in some of the gloomiest situations, he’d always manage to pull something off to ease the minds of those around him. Azul-san loved that about him. Soon enough, they’re love for one another blossomed to the point that she got pregnant, with you Honokasa.” Hearing how much her mother loved her father and hearing of what he was like, Hionokasa smiled softly. But she still hasn’t heard anything about the wedding ring.

“Wait, what about the wedding ring that my father gave her?” Kanbe waves his right hand up and down as if to signal to her that he was getting there.

“Patience child I’m getting there. Anyways so about five months into your pregnancy, Huntson suddenly left the village for about a month. Something that was out of character for him since he always lets Azul-san know where he is. This caused her to panic at first. Looking frantically all over the village. I even had to stop her from moving by force sometimes on the account that she had you in her belly. When he finally returned. He got an earful from Azul-san as she almost broke to tears from fearing the worst.” Listening intently, Honokasa unconsciously grips her scarf tightly.

“Then what old man?” Honokasa asked impatiently.

“As she was crying, Huntson said to her “Sorry dear that I was gone, but in the passion of our love, I neglected to get you something that acts as the physical proof of our bond. And I’m not talking about our child.’ He soon presented her with the wedding ring. He had sold everything he had no need of from his props to magic spell books, none of it mattered to him. When he presented the ring to her, he said ‘Azul, the unexpected love of my life, will you do me the honor of marrying me?’ Seeing the ring, Azul-san’s tears grew stronger, but not because she was still worried about him, but she was overwhelmed with happiness as she accepted. The two officially married a day afterwards.” Kanbe’s smile soon faded though as he looked down, frowning afterwards “Your mother never told you this...but about a week before you were born, bandits came to the village directly to steal the village goods we had accrued in the town of Derdra. In an attempt to protect the villagers, Azul-san tried to help despite her condition. I was there at the time…”

*Twenty one years ago*

“Azul! You can’t help me in this fight! You’d be a liability so go find somewhere safe!” With Kanbe along with the other Ninja and Kunoichi fighting the large number of bandits back, Azul stared at her comrades, helpless to aid them as they struggled to keep the bandits away due to their sheer numbers. But as she stared at the battle in front of her, she failed to sense one of the bandits behind her.

“Hehe stuipid woman, where are you looking?!” Turning her head, she saw the man about to stab her on her back with a knife. But instead of feeling the cold steel pierce her skin, she was pushed to her right, landing on her butt “What?!” Hearing the all to familiar sound of flesh being sliced, it took a moment for Azul to regain her composure before seeing who pushed her.

“You dastard!” With the bandits arm bound by a firm grip, Huntson kept the knife which partially pierced his chest in place. “Aiming a knife at a woman in labor, and my wife no less! I shan't not show mercy to anyone who lays murderous intent to my beloved!” Pulling out a knife out of the belt strap on his back, he stabs the bandit right on the neck.

“Guuaaahh!” The bandit arched back from the pain, but before he’d die, he stared right at Hunston with murderous intensity “Bastard!” He pushes himself forward, using his body weight to push huntson to the ground. Azul could only watch in horror, unable to move her body from the shock.

“Keeraaugh!” Laying on the ground, Huntson coughed up blood. Managing to muster the strength to push the bandit off him before seeing the knife deeply embedded in his chest. The bandit turned his head to see the knife deep in Hutsons chest, smiling with content before bleeding to death.

“NO!!! Hunstson!!!” Gaining her body’s cooperation, Azul crawled to Huntson as she picked him up from the back, laying his head on her thighs “N...no….” Staring at his wound, blood was quickly pooling under him as she felt his warm blood flow onto her thighs and onto the ground.

“Guuuuhaaa!” Coughing up blood, Hunston looked at Azul for a moment, reaching his right hand to her face, gently caressing her cheeks “I...I don’t know how you do it dear. Killing someone, even if it’s to defend yourself or others...my hand won’t stop trembling.” Her eyes narrowed, Azul grabbed his hand as tears started to pour down to his face below.

“Please save your strength, don’t speak!” With her voice quivering with fear, she was desperately rubbing her cheeks on his hand.

“aha...Azul...you know that it doesn’t matter now. The wound I re-*cough* received is fatal. I’ll probably die within the next five minutes or so.” Hearing his words, Azuls eyes widened in fear before focusing her attention on the knife still stuck on his chest.

“NO! Don’t say that! We can still save you! If we pull the knife out now and heal you with magic right away, we can mend you!” Lost in her panicked state, she reached for the knife, but she was quickly stopped by Kanbe who grabbed her arm “Kanbe! LET GO!!!” Shaking her arm to try and pry it off his grip, Kanbe shook his head slowly.

“Stop it Azul...if you pull the knife out, he’ll bleed out even faster. And even then, there is no one here that is nearly skilled enough in healing magic to seal his wound close in time.” With his words ringing true, Azul knew logistically that he was right. But her emotions, which she normally kept at bay, was clouding her mind. In the end, her tense body loosened up before staring right at Kanbe, her eyes hollow as if she herself had died. “Ah!” Unable to stare at her despair, Kanbe turned his face away from her “I’m sorry….” He let go of her arm as it fell limp.

“I...I’m sorry dear. I didn’t mean to die before the birth of our child.” Hearing his weakened voice, Azul turned her head to him. Seeing his eyes slowly losing their light, she saw that he was dying soon. “I’m going to have to leave the burden of parenthood to you alone...I’m so sorry I-” Azul shook her head in denial furiously, closing her eyes as tears streamed down her face in a torrent.

“NO! It’s my fault! If I hadn’t come out here, you would have been fine! I was selfish and being stuipid! PLEASE YOU CAN’T DIE!!!” She slowly opened her eyes, her voice barely coming out. “A stu-*sniffle* stupid mother like me shouldn’t raise our child!” Using the last of his strength, Huntson shook his head.

“You’re wrong. You’ve changed so much since we first met. I acted boldly the first time we met and never regretted it since. You’ve become such a loving woman afterwards while still doing your job as a Kunoichi.” He rubbed the tears away from her eyes before grabbing her cheeks again. “Raise our child with the same smile you graced me with all this time. I know you’ll be a loving mother. Now please, no more tears. Smile…” Holding his hand with hers, she gently opens her eyes before smiling for him. “Ah...how beautiful....” Seeing her smiling face for the last time, Huntson cracked a small smile as he closed his eyes for the last time before his hand turned limp. Feeling them, Azul’s expression quickly shifted that of despair as she sees Huntson dead, smiling back to her.

“Hunstson...HUNTSON!!!!!!!!” Her screams echoed through the entire village. Crying profusely until she couldn’t cry anymore.

*Present time*

“After his burial which was held on the center back mountain of our village, Azul-san swore to keep her word to Hunston. When you were born, with the exception of the times she was on her missions, she always kept smiling to everyone. And of course you too of course Honokasa. You don’t remember much since you were so young at the time, but Azul-san loved you so much. She’d always think of ways to spoil you rotten with gifts that she’d get between missions. There were times when she couldn’t keep her promise to him. Every so often, when you’re asleep, Honokasa, Azul-san would go to your father's grave, crying and asking for forgiveness. Of course she’d also tell him about how well you’ve been. The scarf that’s now covered in blood is just one of the ways she showed her love to you. Through Huntson, she learned to value gifts of those who love you. Objects they maybe, they each hold the love and care of the gifter which she valued even over her own beliefs as a Kunoichi. The ring was so important to her that she’d rather die than lose it.” Honokasa hadn’t realized it herself, but tears started to trickle down her cheeks.

“Honokasa…” Yuto said softly before Kanbe spoke again.

“Before Azul-san died. She asked me to keep the ring and give it to you one day Honokasa when you found someone special in your heart. But I felt so responsible for her death. So I disgraced her request and hid the ring in your scarf instead for you to find, I was just being a coward…” Getting off his chair, he gets on his knees and places his hands flat on the ground sideways as he bowed “I do not expect your forgiveness, but even still, let me apologize!” His voice quivering, he couldn’t hold back his tears. Honokasa got off her chair as he squatted down near him.

“Look...I learned even more about my mother thanks to you. I’m sure my father and mother would not blame you for what happened. So it’s fine. Please stand up Kanbe, you’re a respected former Ninja.” Hearing her, he looked up at her, seeing her smile. Her smile took him by surprise as his eyes widened.

“I have to honor how my mother and father lived. So no more tears please.” Wiping the tears off his face, Kanbe get up and pats her on the head “Kanbe?” Confused, Kanbe just chuckled a little from her words.

“Ha...your smile is just as warm as your mothers. It suits you.” Yuto, who silently watched, smiled at the sight before him. But beyond that, seeing her beautiful smile made him blush. Noticing this, Kanbe turned to Yuto. “Now why don’t you show that same smile to Yuto there. I’m sure he misses you as much as you missed him.” New to his ears, Yuto turned to Honokasa.

“Wait, you were thinking of me too?” Being found out, Honokasas face turned bright red as she panicked.

“Ah well...I mean...it’s just-” Seeing his opportunity to speak, Kanbe happily interjected.

“Honokasa would often speak about your whereabouts, wondering if you had made it back to the village everytime she returned from her missions. I hear these things since the villagers afterwards tell me since I was technically tasked with looking after her.” Unable to focus due to her embarrassment Honokasa stuttered profusely before Yuto placed his hands on her shoulders.

“I’m glad I wasn’t the only one thinking that!” Before they had realized it, the both of them had practically given out a love confession. “Uh...I mean…” Kanbe broke off the awkward tension between them as he pried Yuto’s hands off her.

“I don’t mean to spoil the mood kids, but please save your lovey dovey reunion recap at your own house.” They both turn their faces away from one another afterwards. Kanbe breaks the silence with a loud exhale before speaking up again. “Go on you two, I’m sure you have a lot of catching up to do.” Turning their heads towards one another, they both smiled and nodded at one another before turning to Kanbe and nodding to him afterwards.

“Right. Yuto, you still remember where I live right?” Honokasa asked.

“Yes, of course. Let’s get you settled down there for the day there to heal.” With both in high spirits, they hold each others free hand as the others were used to wrap their perspective scarves around their necks before walking out Kanbe’s house. Sitting together on the driver's seat of the carriage, they head back to Honokasa’s house for the day as Kanbe saw them off.

“Welp...it looks like you’ll have grandkids soon Azul-san, oh and of course Marriane as well.” He watches the two head home as he smiled at their union.

*A Month later*

During the month that has passed, the two had lived together in Honokasa’s home, catching up with one another’s lives during so. Yuto would leave everyday for a few hours to do his business dealings as a merchant to earn them money while Honokasa rested up to let her wound heal. As the month drew on its final day, Honokasa’s wound had finally closed up completely with the help of careful cleaning, restitching, and magic healing. When midnight came signifying the end of the month, the two held one another’s hand as they laid on the same futon, staring at the ceiling before turning their heads to one another.

“So...your wound healed proper right? No aches or pains when moving or twisting your abdomen?” Yuto asked breaking the silence.

“Yup. I’m pretty sure extreme movement is till out of the question so I probably won’t be able to fight for at least another month.” Looking down at her new brown sweater, she holds her gut where the wound was “But I can at least help you with your job to make it easier on you. Maybe even earn some coin myself.” Smiling softly, Yuto reached his right hand out and caressed her wound with her.

“That’s good. You know though the time I was in Cerxis, I got to see more of the Manono living there. There were even attempts at courting me when I let my guard down.” Honokasa got worried for a moment, gripping the futon below her tightly with her left hand.

“You don’t have a girlfriend or an ex, do you?” Hearing slight jealousy from her words, Yuto chuckled a little. “He, that’s not funny! I thought you and I shared the same feeling?!” Yuto just smiled and nodded with her

“And that we do. I never answered their advances so relax. I was actually more worried about you. Not so much with you finding a man since you took your job so seriously, but I mean with your profession and all...I was always fearing the worst.” Hearing his concern, she blushed before turning her head to look away from his eyes.

“H-hey, have more confidence in me will yah? I trained really hard to the point that I even got more bulk that I would have liked. There’s no way I’d die that easily.” Yuto rolled his body around, getting on top of Honokasa. His hands planted next to her head on the futon, looking down on her “Yu...to…”Looking into his eyes, she saw love and care beneath them.

“But you almost did. And it was my fault to boot. I’m glad you recovered, because I don’t think I can hold out any longer.” Seeing him lower his body slowly, he moved his face closer to hers until they were mere inches away “I love you Honokasa. Ever since you helped me. There wasn’t a day that I left Kurokage that I haven’t thought of you, I’m probably not as strong as you probably would have liked but-” Placing her right hand on his cheeks, she smiles and shakes her head in denial.

“No silly...you do what you’re good at, which is helping others. I’ll do the dirty work behind the scenes so you don’t have to be exposed to danger. I’ve lost my father before I was even born and my mother four years afterwards. I don’t want to lose anyone else I care for.” Raising her head up, she grabs his cheeks with her hands before kissing him. Her soft lips pressed against his before they both opened each others lips, their tongues reaching for each other as they entangle one another. Kissing each other passionately, they get bolder with each exchange, their moans echoing in the house. After a few more moments, they part away as a trail of saliva extended slightly from where they were connected before breaking off, half of each landed on their chins.

“Ha...sorry for the sloppy kiss. Was my first one.” Yuto said giggling to himself.

“Yea, mine too.” Looking at Yuto’s eyes, she sees his gaze affixed to her chest “Go ahead Yuto...you can pull my top down. I know you stole glances with every chance you had.” Caught red handed, Yuto gulped down before staring at her chest. He used his right hand to pull down her top as her breasts pop out.

“Holy cow. They’re bigger than I thought.” Without thinking, he placed his right hand on her chest.
